GYNECOLOGY AND CHINESE MEDICINE
COMBINING EAST AND WEST
Many women choose to use Chinese Medicine while they are also receiving treatment with drugs or surgery, radiation therapy, or Assisted Reproductive Technology. Several reproductive endocrinologists in the Boulder/Denver area recommend using acupuncture to enhance the success rate of their therapies.
CHINESE MEDICINE’S LONG HISTORY OF SUCCESS
The practice of gynecology in Chinese Medicine goes back over 3000 years. It is an ancient system of healing that has proven itself over time to be safe and effective, as well as affordable. The challenge in today’s world is to integrate the traditional healing methods with modern scientific medicine, without sacrificing the richness of the Chinese tradition.
Chinese medicine respects that women have unique physiology and needs. According to traditional Chinese theory, women’s physiology is rooted in Blood, which is the source of the menstrual period, fertility, pregnancy, and childbirth. Kidney deficiency is at the root of many women’s problems. The purpose of therapy is to clear stagnation and heat conditions when necessary, regulate and tonify Yin, Yang, Qi, and Blood.
TREATMENT
Treatment can consist of acupuncture, once a week or twice a month, herbal prescriptions, (which are tailored to the individual woman), supplements, appropriate diet, stress reduction, moderate exercise, and occasionally natural hormonal products. If I find that I cannot help you, I will refer you to another health care practitioner who can.
FOR MID-LIFE WOMEN
Molly specializes in safe and effective hormonal support for both perimenopause and menopause. She uses a combination approach with dietary and lifestyle recommendations, Chinese herbs, and phytoestrogens from foods and herbs (including soy, vitex, licorice, tang quei, and black cohosh.) Natural human identical hormones are also available. I can help you design a program that will cover all your needs. If you need a prescription, she can consult with your doctor. I spend time with you in order to understand why you are out of balance, both in the present situation, as well as understanding the root condition (your past history and genetic strengths and weaknesses).
CHINESE HERBS
Chinese herbal prescriptions can be an integral part of treatment. Herbs are used to rectify the underlying imbalance and restore normal functions. They are safe and non-toxic and generally well tolerated. Herbs are typically administered in powder or pill form.
TESTING
Sometimes further testing is recommended, which could include blood or saliva hormone tests, Dexa Bone Density test, and stool or urine tests for digestive function, food sensitivities, and heavy metal toxicity. For preventive care, testing is available to assess your risk for diabetes and heart disease.
